Promises in server-side scripts: async S3, SOAP, mail, OneDrive and HTTP

Server-side JavaScript gains native promises over Java futures, with allOf and anyOf. S3, SOAP, mail, OneDrive, Ansible and the HTTP client offer asynchronous forms beside the synchronous ones.

An integration script that calls three external services in sequence waits three times. With promises it waits once. This release brings native promise handling to the server-side scripting surface and gives the integration library asynchronous forms.

Promises

  • Native A Java completable future is exposed to JavaScript as a promise, with allOf and anyOf for fan-out and race. The earlier thenable shim is removed in favour of the engine's own handling.
  • Asynchronous library calls S3 put and get, SOAP calls, mail sending, IP location, OneDrive content, Ansible commands and playbooks, and HTTP requests gain an async variant. Every synchronous form stays.

Where scripts come from

  • Custom file systems Scripts load from the dictionary context rather than from disk, and npm modules from a node_modules tree, routed by path prefix.

Virtual threads arrived in the same month on the executor side. Promises are their counterpart in the language.
