Right-to-left PDF reports: writing modes, complex scripts and the Dubai font

Report output follows the locale's direction: writing mode set on blocks and components, complex-script shaping for ligatures and bidirectional text, and the Dubai font embedded in three weights.

The user interface learned Arabic and Urdu in late 2024. Printed output lagged: a report rendered left to right regardless of locale. This release makes the document engine follow the locale's direction.

Direction from the locale

  • Determined once Directionality is derived from the locale, its script or its language, with a fallback when none is known.
  • Applied to the layout The writing mode is set on block containers and components, and the renderer switches mode when the locale is right-to-left.

Shaping and type

  • Complex scripts Ligatures and bidirectional text are enabled in the formatting processor.
  • Dubai The Dubai font family is embedded in light, regular and bold.

Accessible PDF output came in December 2024; right-to-left output completes the document engine for the Gulf and South Asian markets.
