A file explorer over any hierarchical cursor: previews, operations, search, tags

A new view type renders any hierarchical cursor as a tree with a node pane. Previews cover markdown, HTML, images, PDF, video, code, email, 3D models and spreadsheets; seven optional events turn it into a file manager.

Documents, media libraries and dictionaries are all trees of nodes with content. This release adds a view type that renders any such cursor as an explorer, and leaves to the application how much of a file manager it becomes.

The view

  • Tree, divider, node pane A new table view type bound to no table of its own. Content loads and saves through two named events, so the application decides where bytes live.
  • Previews by media type Markdown, sandboxed HTML, SVG, images, PDF, video, audio, code in the editor, email, 3D models and spreadsheets.
  • Seven optional events add move, rename, create, delete and upload. Implement none and it is a browser; implement all and it is a file manager.

Finding things

  • Content search with honesty A probe on mount learns whether the engine offers indexed, pattern or no text search, and the field says which.
  • Tags Written as a whole list through one event, coloured from a palette the application supplies.
  • The manual uses it The platform documentation itself became an explorer object, backed by eleven SQL handlers.

The first explorer the platform shipped is the one it reads its own manual in.
