A portal is a user's own arrangement of channels: cards, lists, charts. Building one used to go through a wizard that described a channel in words. This release shows the channel instead.
Composing a portal
- Live previews The wizard is replaced by a panel of read-only cards. A card runs after 120 milliseconds on screen and is cancelled when it leaves, so browsing costs nothing the user is not looking at.
- Drag to place A preview card dragged onto the canvas becomes a channel. The new channel scrolls into view, pulses, and offers Undo for eight seconds.
- Sibling portals as tabs A user's portals sit as sheet tabs.
Underneath
- Lighter menus The menu no longer embeds every portal's boxes; a portal fetches its own.
- An authorable kind Portal templates became an object kind an agent or an engineer can author, with the twelve-column grid enforced and eligibility reported as a plan error.
- Objects across the stack Objects are listed per database across the dictionary stack with no dictionary grant required.
The analytics desktop is where business users meet the platform. Making it composable by drag is how most of them will meet it.
